Established in 2003 by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the International Humanitarian City (IHC) is a non-profit, independent free zone authority mandated to facilitate international humanitarian aid. The IHC is among the 28 entities that make up the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the largest development foundation in the Middle East.

Since its establishment, IHC has grown to become the world’s largest and busiest logistics hub for humanitarian aid with nine UN agencies and nearly fifty NGOs and commercial entities within its member pool. IHC is the world’s only free zone designated to humanitarian response, make its work unparalleled.

The IHC’s capabilities and strategic location — within eight hours by air to two-thirds of the world”s population — have helped deliver assistance in some of the worst humanitarian crises of the past decade, including the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the recurring wars in Gaza, the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan, the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, as well as the Nepal earthquake and Cyclone Pam in 2015. IHC has also carried out several evacuation operations over the years protecting over 600 UN staff from conflict in Afghanistan, Yemen and Egypt.
